The Renters’ Rights Act comes into force on 1 May, bringing significant changes for landlords, particularly those who manage their own properties.
We are already speaking to a number of clients who are unsure what these changes mean in practice, and how they may impact both compliance requirements and the financial management of their property portfolios.
Alongside the headline reforms, there are also immediate obligations to be aware of, including a requirement to provide tenants with a new Government Information Sheet by 31 May. Missing or incorrectly handling these requirements could lead to compliance issues, delays or potential financial penalties.
To help provide clarity, we are pleased to be taking part in a free landlord information evening hosted by Maddisons Residential on Thursday 7 May at Kingdom, Penshurst (near Tunbridge Wells).
The session will feature Paul Shamplina, one of the UK’s leading landlord and tenant law specialists and founder of Landlord Action, who will explain what the new legislation means in practice and where landlords may be most at risk.
The event will cover:
What the Renters’ Rights Act means in practice
Key compliance requirements and deadlines
Common pitfalls landlords need to avoid
The financial and tax implications of the changes
From our side, we will focus on the financial impact, including:
Property accounting and tax returns
The use of limited company structures
Planning for changes under Making Tax Digital
How to ensure your property portfolio remains efficient and compliant
This is a practical session designed to give landlords a clear understanding of what is changing, what action they need to take now, and how to continue operating successfully in a more regulated environment.
